In the state of Mississippi, there are no requirements to become a security guard on the state level. However, there may be some requirements to carry a firearm on the city and county levels.

Requirements of Mississippi Security Guards / Security Officers:

There are a number of requirements which you need to meet to become an unarmed security guard or security officer:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have no felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons

Basic Requirements of Armed Security Guards / Security Officers in Mississippi:

There are a number of requirements that you need to meet in order to become an armed security guard:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • Successfully pass a background check (this will include drug testing)
  • Hold a valid Mississippi state driver’s License
  • Have good physical conditioning
  • Have no mental instability
  • Have no drug use or dependency (as mentioned above you will need to submit to a drug test)
  • Have no acts of fraud or convictions
