Maryland Armed & Unarmed Security Guard Training & License Requirements

In the state of Maryland you must by certified regardless if you are planning to be an unarmed or armed security guard.  If you want to be a security guard you can become certified through the company which you are applying with although, your application will go through that company and forwarded to the Secretary of State.

Below we have outlined information about becoming an Unarmed Security Guard or Armed Security Guard in Maryland

 

Requirements of Maryland Security Guards / Security Officers:

There are a number of requirements which you need to meet:

  • Be at least 18 year old
  • Be a citizen of United States of America or a registered resident alien
  • Be willing to submit to drug testing (this may be ongoing)
  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Have good moral character
  • Have not committed any acts of fraud
  • Submit to fingerprinting

Basic Requirements of Armed Security Guards / Security Officers in Maryland:

There are a number of requirements that you need to meet in order to become an armed security guard:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be a United States of America citizen or registered resident alien
  • Submit to drug testing (this may be ongoing)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Have good moral character
  • Have not committed any acts of fraud
  • Submit to fingerprinting
  • Hold a valid Maryland driver’s License
  • Have good physical conditioning
  • No mental instability
