Maine Armed & Unarmed Security Guard Training & License Requirements

In Maine, you do not need to be licensed as an armed or unarmed security guard as long as you are employed by a licensed security company. Effectively in other words, the licensing requirements fall on the security company as opposed to you the employee.

Requirements of Maine Security Guards / Security Officers:

There are a number of requirements which you need to meet:

  • Be at least 18 year old
  • Be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • Have no convictions punishable by jail time of one year or more in the last 5 years
  • You may be asked to submit to drug testing (this also may be ongoing)
  • You may be asked to submit to a criminal background check
  • You must have good moral character
  • You have not committed any acts of fraud

Basic Requirements of Armed Security Guards / Security Officers in Maine:

There are a number of requirements that you need to meet in order to become an armed security guard:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • Have no convictions punishable by jail time of one year or more in the last 5 years
  • You must not be a fugitive of the law
  • You must have no drug use or dependency
  • You may be asked to submit to drug testing (this may be ongoing)
  • You must complete and pass a criminal background check
  • You must have good moral character
  • You must not have committed any acts of fraud
  • Hold a valid Maine driver’s License
  • Have good physical conditioning
  • No mental instability
