Kentucky Armed & Unarmed Security Guard Training & License Requirements

Currently the state of Kentucky does not have a licensing policy for unarmed or armed security guards at the state level. However, there may be some requirements on the city and county levels in which case you must contact the local City Clerk’s office.

Below we have outlined information about becoming an Unarmed Security Guard or Armed Security Guard in Kentucky

 

Requirements of Kentucky Security Guards / Security Officers:

There are a number of requirements which you need to meet:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Have no felony convictions or crime involving the illegal use of weapons

Basic Requirements of Armed Security Guards / Security Officers in Kentucky:

There are a number of requirements that you need to meet in order to become an armed security guard:

  • Be at least 21 years old (this is a requirement to have a weapon permit)
  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Have no felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons
  • Hold a valid Kentucky state driver’s License
  • Be mentally Stable and able to perform your security duties
  • Have good physical conditioning
