Indiana Armed & Unarmed Security Guard Training & License Requirements

To become a security guard in the state of Indiana, you may be required to have a state license (even if you are looking to become an unarmed security guard in Indiana). It is ultimately up to the company that hires you because, according to Statues & Rules IC 25-30-1-11 Employees of licensee, an unarmed guard can be hired under the licensee (the hiring company).

Requirements of Indiana Security Guards / Security Officers:

There are a number of requirements which you need to meet:

  • Be at least 18 years of age to apply (for an unarmed security guard – this is different for armed)
  • Be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Provide finger prints
  • Submit to FBI background check
  • Have no felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons
  • Drug testing (this may be on-going)
  • Completed of Indiana state certified training courses set forth by the Department of Public Safety for Indiana
