Hawaii Armed & Unarmed Security Guard Training & License Requirements

To become an unarmed security guard in Hawaii an applicant must meet certain criteria although, a license is not necessarily required unless the hiring company requires one. In principle an unarmed security card can work without being licensed provided that the company is.

Below we have outlined as much information as possible about becoming an Unarmed Security Guard or Armed Security Guard in Hawaii.

 

Requirements of Hawaii Security Guards / Security Officers:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Have four years of guard experience
  • Be mental sound and not suffering from any psychological disorder
  • Have no convictions  and not committed any acts of fraud
  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Have good moral character
  • Provide and submit to fingerprinting
  • Provide criminal background abstract for the last 10 years

Basic Requirements of Armed Security Guards / Security Officers in Hawaii:

  • Be at least 21 year old
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have four years of guard experience
  • Have no convictions  and not committed any acts of fraud
  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Have good moral character
  • Provide and submit to fingerprinting
  • Provide criminal background abstract for the last 10 years
  • Have good physical conditioning
  • Weapon permit issued by county police

There is also training requirements which included 8 hours of class room instruction before assigned to post and yearly refresher training (4 hours)
