Georgia Armed & Unarmed Security Guard Training & License Requirements

There are a number of requirements that we have outlined below to provide you with as much information about becoming an Unarmed Security Guard or Armed Security Guard in Georgia.

We have split out each section into individual areas although, it is important to note that to become an unarmed security guard in Georgia, a license is not required. Potential applications must meet other qualifications however and this includes 24 hours of classroom training.

 

Requirements of Georgia Security Guards / Security Officers:

To become an unarmed Georgia security guard or officer the following requirements must be met:

  • Be at least 18 year old
  • Be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • Hold a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Have good moral character
  • Have no felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons
  • Have not committed any acts of fraud
  • Drug testing (which may be ongoing)

The basic training course as mentioned above consists of at least 24-hours class instruction that must be successfully completed. This course can be given by the potential employer or may be taken as a standalone class. The curriculum may include but not limited to the following subjects:

  1. Role of Private Security
  2. Legal Aspects
  3. Patrol and Observation
  4. Incident Response
  5. Security Resources: Surveillance operation and documentation
  6. Customer Service Issues: Working with and addressing the public
  7. First Aid Overview

Basic Requirements of Armed Security Guards / Security Officers in Georgia:

  • Be at least 21 year old
  • Be a United States citizen or registered resident alien
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have good moral character
  • Have no felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons
  • Have not committed any acts of fraud
  • Hold a state driver’s license
  • Have good physical conditioning
  • Complete the 24 hours training as outlined above
